Fall Home Tour

On this first evening of fall came a crisp, cool breeze outside and suddenly I’m dreaming of sipping on sugary, warm pumpkin spice lattes by the fireplace. Fall is officially here, and though Virginia temperatures stay fairly warm throughout September, cooler weather is on its way — which means it’s time to fully embrace and celebrate the new season!

There’s something inspiring about the cooler temperatures, brisk and refreshing air, and vibrant, changing colors of the leaves. It inspires me to go on fun, autumn adventures with my family but also to create a cozy, warm and inviting space in our home. Especially for those days (they will come eventually!) when the temperatures drop significantly and everyone wants to gather inside by the fireplace.

There may always be projects that we are dreaming of doing in our home, to make a space more efficient or beautiful, but I never want to forget to cherish my home right now in the present — all of the wonderful things about it! Fall is also a time when I try to remind myself how thankful I am of everything, and most importantly everyone, around me.

I put together a little tour of my home for you; my hope is to inspire you in your fall decorating, to help you on your journey of creating a beautiful space that you love! As beautiful as the season we’re in.

DECORATING FOR THE FALL SEASON

01 Bring the outdoors inside by using earthy tones (have you seen the the 2023 Sherwin Williams color of the year?) mixed with more vibrant fall colors — I love using warm neutrals (creamy white, brown, and gold) and then adding hints of deep burgundy red for fall. Oranges, reds and yellows are gorgeous fall colors too.

02 Create cozy and warm lighting in your home with candles, lanterns, string lights, under-cabinet lighting, a small lamp in your kitchen, and more. Invest in glass candle votives for your dining room table and the mood is set!

03 Immerse your home in delicious fall fragrances: apple, pumpkin spice, coffee, and autumn leaves are some of my favorite candle and wax melter scents.

04 Place a variety of textures around your home to create an inviting and relaxing space. Anything from baskets, woven blankets, or rattan pumpkins (see below) will do.

05 Breathe in the fresh, autumn air and enjoy the season with your loved ones! I try to soak it in as much as possible since it always seems to fly by.

Happy fall!
